LUCY

The lights went out and Lucy, the little girl of seven years that was sleeping, started crying.

It was not the first time that it had happened. The lights had gone off often before, but she had never heard wind blows like this. The window of her room sounded as if somebody was calling her. She thought that it was the wind, and she tried to sleep. Within a few minutes the door of her room opened slowly, and she saw the large shadow in the light of the moon. She was terrified. She thought that it was an enormous monster that was coming to devour her. But she was confused. It was only her grandmother who, startled by her weepings, had gotten up to calm her. She soon left the room, not before giving Lucy a kiss on the cheek and telling her that she should dream of princesses. But princesses were the things she dreamt less of, she was only thinking about monsters that were scaring her. She didn’t forget about the sounds at the window, she couldn’t sleep. She got up from her bed to go to the kitchen to drink water. It seemed to take forever, though the stairs were the only thing that separated her from the kitchen. She was not able to take a step without turning her head, and ran back to her room.

She couldn’t sleep, her only thought was that tomorrow she had to get up early to go to school.

The thought made her cry, but, luckily, she fell asleep, and thought that if she didn’t sleep enough, the following day she wouldn’t have enough energy to go to school.
